[1997] Visit to Mum and Dad Morn.: To Garstang in the car. Dull though warm day. Walking from the car park to the street market, I noticed that a “Michael Booth”[i] had a dental practice there. We walked the length of the market stalls; Janet bought me a denim cap for protection for my bald head from the sun. We visited the Booth’s supermarket; I noticed some “Lancashire Whisky”, made in Wigan, on sale. Back in the car, Mum related that when she worked at Norcross as a casual officer, so did David Rotheram. He seemed to think that such work was “beneath” him, and he didn’t stay long. He mentioned me, saying I was a “Jesus freak”; so Mum pointed out that so was she, and she witnessed to him. We visited Kwik Save in Thornton on the way home, so I could help replenish the stocks of whisky and beer. Janet felt ill by the time we got home; she can’t travel very far without feeling sick. I had Linda McCartney meat-free sausages—quite tasty, actually. Stew for tea. More information: It was in 1959 that Dad got the first motorbike and sidecar; and it was only a few months afterwards that he got the second one with the Busmar sidecar. In November 1965 he got the first Reliant, the old soft-top one; Grandad became ill that Christmas; and it was early the following year that he got the new, light blue Reliant. I think the connection with Grandad’s becoming ill is that Grandma was involved in buying the new car to assist with getting Grandad around. It started get become windy later in the evening.
