- part of an evangelical service, following the preaching of the gospel, when people are earnestly and urgently asked to decide personally to receive Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and to indicate this decision by some specified act, e.g. the raising of a hand, or coming forward to the front of the meeting. (The latter practice is sometimes referred to as an “altar call”.)
- a similar part, when people who have already received Christ are asked to respond for some other reason, e.g. to dedicate their lives wholly to the Lord, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to receive a spiritual gift, to be healed, etc.
