1966

The diary-entry for today is as follows:

School as usual.
Aud came down at night—
gave out some tracts in
Thornton. Watched T.V. Dad
got new Reliant—went Aud’s in it.
Dad got new Reliant: My Dad drove a motorcycle-and-sidecar combination till November 1965, when he got the first Reliant three-wheeled car, the old soft-top one. Formerly, people with only a motor-cycle driver’s licence, such as my Dad, were permitted to drive any 3-wheeled vehicle, and also the Road Fund Tax was lower than for 4-wheeled vehicles. Grandad Cooper had become ill around Christmas 1965 — and it was today that Dad got the new, light blue hard-top Reliant. (I think the connection with Grandad’s becoming ill is that Grandma Cooper was involved in buying the new car to assist with getting Grandad around.)
