Peter Gooding’s coining for a bad sound when playing a vinyl record, e.g. if the record was badly scratched, dirty, or worn; or if it was played on a record-player with a worn or damaged stylus; or if one placed the pickup arm on the record clumsily, or dragged it across the surface of the record.
