[2012]
[Saturday 4 February 2012]

Satellite image (from Google Maps) with some of the places seen today shown
in yellow. Our boat, the Jaz Regency, was moored on the east bank of the Nile
just north of the area covered by the map.
The schedule for today was:
  • 06:00 Wake up call
  • 06:00–07:00 Breakfast
  • 07:00 Visit Aswan
  • 13:30 Lunch
  • 16:00–16:30 Tea time
  • 16:30 Vegetable show
  • 19:30 Dinner
  • 21:00 Galabeya party
I was awake well before 6am so decided to get up. Janet had her “Saturday” today, i.e. ate food not just salad vegetables. She’d prepared the waiting staff, maître d’, etc. yesterday by saying she’d surprise them today. The Travco minibus took us here (photo, below), where we boarded a small motor boat which took us to the island on which Philae Temple stands. This was moved from a lower island subject to flooding. The art of moving temples hadn’t been perfected, so some of the friezes, we were told, were mismatched, and there were stones left over.
